Hayden is 2 Months Old!

Today, Hayden turns 2 months old.  He has definitely done a lot of growing this month.  He went to his well check today and weighed 13 pounds, 12 ounces and was 24 inches long.

Here are just a few of the things Hayden has experienced this past month.

I went on a girls retreat with my best friends and Hayden got to go!  He did so well and slept pretty well in the hotel room.

We went with my parents to Galveston and Hayden got to see the beach for the first time.  It was so cold, so going on the water was impossible, but we still had fun!

He celebrated his first Thanksgiving!

We went to the La Cima club with my parents for a nice dinner, and he pretty much slept the whole time!

He discovered his love for smiling, and I must say is adorable when he does it!

Eat:He is eating 5 ounces every 3 hours during the day, and gets 6 ounces at night and in the morning.  He is still a really good eater.  He will let you know when he is hungry though!

Play:He loves to play!  His favorite activities to do right now are sit in his bouncer and watch baby sprout.

We are also working on lots of tummy time.

Sleep: He is a champ at sleeping!  He is sleeping through the night now!  Music to this mamma's ears.  He goes to bed around 8:00 and will sleep till at least 7:00.  He is taking two good naps a day and maybe one little cat nap also.  I really lucked out with his sleeping habits.

Hayden Timothy, we love you more than you know.  You are such a light in our lives, and I don't remember what life was even like before you joined our family.  We love you sweet boy!

Hayden is 1 Month Old!

Today our little man turns one month old. I can't believe he has been in our lives for one whole month already. Time really does fly. Here are just a few things he has done in his first month of life.

He was loved on a lot by his big sister

He came home from the hospital and met Angel

He went to his first restaurant at just a week old

He went to the State Fair of Texas

He went to the mall shopping

He had his first bath (which he hated at first, but loves now!)

He went to the library and slept through the whole thing!

He celebrated his first Halloween

Our lil pumpkin

Eats: Hayden is eating 4 ounces about every 3-4 hours.  From day 1, Hayden has been a good eater.  He is usually telling me when it's time to eat!  When he was born, he was eating about 2 ounces every three hours, then at about 2 weeks we went to three ounces, and then at three weeks he graduated up to four ounces.  I can tell we are about to move up again.

Sleeps: He is sleeping very good!  At night, he will go about 5 hours, eat then sleep another 4 hours.  Not bad.  His big sister was just as good a sleeper, and still is!  During the day is another story!  He takes a really good morning nap, but in the afternoon, he does not want to be in his crib.  He just wants to be held.  Right now, I'm loving it.  It has been great for me because Landry is resting so it's been really good one on one bonding time with Hayden.

Play: For now, he doesn't really play much.  We inherited a Mamaroo, which has been our saving grace.  He loves it.  He will sit in there really good and just take in his surroundings.  It's the perfect machine also when we are eating dinner and need him to go somewhere.  We started tummy time today, and surprisingly, he liked it.  But it helps when you have a four year old sister entertaining you and dancing around you to watch!

We love you little man!

Welcome to the World Hayden!

On October 11, we welcomed our little man into the world.
But, let me start at the beginning of the day.
That morning at 6:30, we checked into the hospital.
My doctor broke my water right at 7:00 AM.
Then the wonderful epidural came and I proceeded to labor for the
next 12 hours!  This baby boy was not wanting to come!
Finally, around 8:00 PM my doctor checked me and discovered that my
body was not dilating anymore and that we would need to do a c section.
A c section was not what I had prepared for, but you do what you have to
do to get your baby out safely.
Within a matter of 20 minutes, I was prepped and ready to go.
Then, they put Tim in scrubs and we were ready to meet our baby.
And at 8:38 PM, we did just that!
I was instantly in love.
In a matter of seconds I fell in love with him.
After we had a few minutes with him to ourselves, we were ready
for Landry to finally meet her baby brother!
Seeing her see him for the first time is unexplainable.
She had been talking about him for so long and was so excited!
After Landry got some time with him, the whole family got to
come back to recovery and meet him.

But, by far, my favorite picture of the night is this one.
These three people mean more to me than anything.
I am so lucky to have them be my family.
God is good!

Dear Hayden

Dear Hayden-

Tomorrow we will finally get to meet you.  I feel like I have waited on you my whole life.  Ever since I was a little girl, I have wanted a girl and a boy.  I got my girl 4.5 years ago, and now God is completing our family with you.  I can’t wait for you to meet your big sister, Landry.  She has waited for you for months.  She talks about you every day and talks to you all the time in my belly.  I want you to know how much this little girl is waiting on you.  You are going to be the cherry on top of our little family, and we can’t wait to see who you are going to look like, and who’s personality you will have, and if you will have big blue eyes like your big sister.  We have prayed over you for these last nine months, and thank God for blessing us with you.  We can’t wait to meet you little man!

I love you!

Dear Landry

Dear Landry-

As we come up on your last days as my only child, I am filled with overwhelming thoughts of it only being the three of us for just a short while longer.  In just a few short days you will become a big sister.  In some ways I still feel like you are still a baby.  Then, you go and do something like write your whole name or get your first loose tooth or tell me how to spell pop.  Then, I remember that you are not a baby, but are 4.5.  You are definitely the light in my life.  I look forward to waking you up every morning and picking you up from school every day.  I love the long conversations we have and the fact that you talk as much and as loud as I do.  I love that while we eat dinner, you tell us about your day and what it was filled with and what your daddy and I missed.  Being our only child for 4.5 years has made you very independent.  You love to go to your room and color or write the alphabet on your notepad.  You love to play house and play with your babies and tell me that you are going camping or to the zoo.  Hayden is going to be one lucky little brother.  He will learn all sorts of things from you.  I cannot wait to see you as a big sister.  The days of just the three of us are coming to an end, but it’s ok-because God has given us such a great gift, and I can’t wait for you to meet him!  The last 4.5 years have passed by so quickly, and I have loved them so much.  You are my sunshine and you remind me that it’s the small things that matter the most in life.

I love you!

His Name

During this pregnancy, the three questions I have gotten asked the most are:
1. When are you due?
2. What are you having?

3. What is his name?

With this pregnancy we had a girl name all set and ready to go.  In my mind, I knew we were having a boy, but I just never thought to come up with a name.  From the day we saw that he was a boy, we have been back and forth about his name.  Trustme; there have been no shortage of friends and family giving their opinion.  I have gotten many text messages with just a name.  I knew exactly what they were doing; I would look at it, write it down and go about my business.  Then the time came where Tim and I decided we needed to pick a name or we were going to be winging it at the hospital!

A few weeks ago, my parents gave us a date night and we decided this was the perfect opportunity to sit down and decide on this little boy’s name.  We had narrowed it down to two names, and went back and forth the entire dinner on which one we should use.  We finally came to a decision.  His name will be:

Hayden Timothy Smith

Hayden has been a name we have loved for a while.  When I was pregnant with Landry, it was one of our boy names for her.  It has always been on our list, and we kept coming back to it.  We decided that would be a good fit for him.  Then I had a dream that Saturday night, and I called out that name in my dream, and I woke up knowing that God had placed it on my heart for a reason.  So, Hayden it is!

Timothy is obviously after Tim.  We thought we might just go with a middle name that had no meaning to us and no family names, like we did with Landry.  But, this is Tim’s only son, and I know he would really love to have him have part of his name.  I love the way it sounds with Hayden, and feel like it will be agood name for him to follow.  Tim is one of the smartest, best people I know.  If Hayden is half the man he is, he will be good.

So, now our baby has a name and it feels so great!  I’m so excited to call him by his name and to know that yes, it did take us a long time to make a decision, but that we love him more than anything!

Oh, and his big sister loves the name too!  She kept saying Hayden was her favorite.  So, I like to think she had a hand in it too!
