Friday Favorites

Woo-hoo, it's Friday again! I'm once again linking up with Andrea, Narci and Erika.

These are my favorite moments from this week.

And we are walking…

On Tuesday night, we were in Hayden’s room playing and Tim was sitting on the floor playing with Hayden and we were determined to get him to walk.  He’s been trying for weeks, but hasn’t taken that first step yet.  Once he got the hang of it, he just kept going!  And, the best part?  I captured it all on video!  We were so excited for him.

Red ribbon week

This week was red ribbon week at school for Landry and she got to dress up every day.  She loved it.

Monday was “I mustache” you to stay off drugs/red day. Tuesday was pajama day. Wednesday was camo day. Thursday was neon/sunglasses day. Friday was dress as your favorite storybook character day.  She went as Fern from Charlotte’s Web.  She looked so cute!

Baby Haley

My friend Kelli had her sweet baby girl Haley on Tuesday and we got to go meet her Thursday.  Wow, you forget how little newborn babies are until you hold one.  Hayden was never this small, but it’s hard for me to remember that Landry was!

Family pictures

We have family pictures in the morning.  I love taking these every year.  It is fun for me to look back and see how much we’ve grown.  Here is last years picture. Hayden was only 6 weeks old!

It's Halloween and Elsa and olaf are ready to trick or treat!

Smith Family Fun

Saturday night, we had Smith family fun night!  I love Halloween.  I most love carving a pumpkin.  This year, I found a huge one, and Landry was chomping at the bit all day to carve it.  We ran a bunch of errands, and then it was finally time to carve!

This pumpkin was way bigger that I thought.  But, we drew the face and Landry really wanted to help.  So, I gave her the yucky part and handed her all the guts to throw in the trash for me!  I’m such a good mama.

Here is our before

And the after!

It turned out a little crooked, but Landry loved it!

Then, we got to make our food.  I made mummy dogs, potato shaped pumpkins and boo cups!

Landry then wanted to make her princess pumpkin.  She had gotten this Mrs. Potato head kit that goes on a pumpkin to put in her room.  It turned out really cute!

After we cleaned up everything, we headed upstairs to watch Hocus Pocus!  I loved this movie growing up.  Within 5 minutes of turning it on, Landry was asleep!  We had such a fun evening together though.

Love this family of mine!

Friday Favorites

This week I’m linking up again with Erika, Narci and Andrea.  I just love this series, and I love seeing what everyone else’s favorite things are.

Park Date…

Last Friday I took Landry and Hayden to the park when I picked them up from school.  We have a really nice park by the house and it has two playgrounds, but also has a baby swing.  Hayden loved it!  My parents have a swing like this in their backyard, but it has a slide behind it so he could only go so far.  So last week when I pulled him up and let go, he got so tickled!  It was the cutest thing.  He loved it!

Texas Weather…

So, last week I wore boots and this week I’m back to shorts.  That’s Texas for you!  I love this weather, but I am so ready for some fall to come our way.

I drive a lot…

So, this is random, but last week my car hit 50,000 miles.  That seems like a lot for only having it 2.5 years.  Then I realized that we have been to Florida, Alabama, and all over Texas in this car.  Lots of memories made here, and I still love it as much as the day we bought it!

My babies…

Yesterday when we got home we went upstairs to play in Hayden’s room and Landry was tired, so she laid down on my lap.  Hayden is really watching her these days, so he laid down just like her.  I love my babies so much and dread the day they don’t want to lay in my lap anymore.

Big Boy…

So, Saturday we are planning Smith family fun day.  We are carving pumpkins, eating Halloween food and watching Hocus Pocus!  I loved this movie growing up, and can’t wait for Landry to watch it.  When I went into Walmart yesterday they had pumpkins sitting out and this one caught my eye.  For $3.00, are you kidding me?  I snagged it up.  Actually it weighed a ton, so it took all I had to put this thing in my cart, but I did.  We can’t wait to cut into him!

Speaking of big boys…

This one is getting too big on me.  I *think* he took his first step last night.  I have my camera out at all times ready to film it, but he usually just plops back down.  Well wouldn’t you know it, the one-time I don’t have my camera and he steps out.  I got so excited and jumped up and down and it scared him and he fell back down!  Here he is this morning on the way to school holding his own bottle and just looking BIG!

I'm so looking forward to this weekend! Woohoo for Friday!!!

Our crazy, scary weekend!

This weekend was so crazy; I’m not sure where to even begin.  We had a little scare with Landry, and I’ll get to that later.

But first, we had a Birthday party to attend Saturday morning.  Our friends have two boys and two girls, both sets are only two years apart, so she does their parties together.  I love this idea!  They both have pretty much the same set of friends, so it works out perfectly.  Lizzie was turning 4 and Brooklyn turned 2.  It was an under the Sea party.  My friend Jenn is so creative.  She has more creativity in her pinky then I have in my whole body.

The girls each got mermaid tails to wear

While the boys had shark fins!

All of our friends were there

She had super cute game booths set up, carnival style.

And the take home gift?  Well, meet Dory, the newest member of the Smith clan.

This is where our day takes a bit of a turn.

So, after the party, we headed to Flower Mound to stay with my parents.  They had a dinner party to go to Saturday night, so Tim and the kids and I ordered dinner in and just vegged out on the couch.  I put Hayden to bed, and Landry kept telling me she was tired, so I put her in on my parent’s bed and put her TV on and left her in there.  My parents came home around 10, and they went into their room to get ready for bed.  My dad said Landry was asleep when they walked in, so he started nudging her to move over so he could lay with her.  It was then, that we got a shock.  Landry started convulsing and shaking and not talking.  My dad screamed for me to come in there and when I turned that corner I was immediately brought back to when she was 13 months old and I got the call from Tim that she was being taken to Children’s hospital.  My dad and Tim got cold rags for her and I called 911.  They came within 3 minutes and at that time;she was still convulsing and not speaking.  They took her temperature and it had gotten up to 103.7!  So, they said they would need to take her by ambulance to the hospital.  They loaded her up on the stretcher and she and I rode in the ambulance while Tim and my dad followed.  I cannot begin to explain what it is like seeing your child on a stretcher in an ambulance.  I tried to stay as calm as I could for Landry’s sake.  She finally came to in the ambulance but was so scared, so I just stayed with her and held her hand the whole ride there.  We got to the hospital and she was admitted into a room where we waited for 2 hours while they gave her fluids and medicine and took some tests.  It was a febrile seizure, which is what I had already known.  Her body just spiked a super high fever really fast and it didn’t handle it well.  I was so glad once they said we could take her home.  She was so brave!  She is so resilient and I’m so glad that all turned out well.  I told her she wasn’t allowed to give mommy a scare like that again.

So, when we finally got home we all crashed.  Tim ended up going to church and the rest of us decided it would be fun to head to the local pumpkin patch.  Landry was feeling better and wanted to get out of the house.  I’m so glad we went.  It was a beautiful morning and the pumpkin patch wasn’t to terribly crowded yet.

We rode the train.

And posed on pumpkins

I love spending time with my parents!

Sunday afternoon, Dani came over and we just sat outside and talked and we were so exhausted that we all just crashed when we got home.

It was definitely a weekend I will never forget.  I love my babies so much.  I’m just praying this never happens to her again.  Through all of this, I realized what kind of support team I really have.  Within minutes of texting all my friends, they were on their knees praying for us.  A couple even offered to come sit with us or watch Hayden.  God has been so good to us!

Friday Favorites

It’s Friday!  We have a great, busy weekend planned.  Birthday party, pumpkin patch and church.  Love our fall weekends!

I thought it would be fun to join in with Erika, Andrea and Narci for Friday Favorites.

Here are a few favorite things that happened this week:

Lowering of the crib…

I walked in a few days ago and Hayden was standing up in his crib and I could tell he was going to fall over any day.  I told Tim we need to just lower it as far as it will go.  This crib was Landry’s so it’s been put to good use, so it made me a little sad that this will be the last time to lower it.

Almost walking…

Hayden has been pushing things and standing for a few seconds at a time the last few weeks, but last night as I was loading the dishwasher, after I lifted it up, he let go and just stood there for a good 15 seconds!  Then I took his hand and he started mimicking walking.  I know we are so close and it makes me sad and happy all at the same time.  Surely I’m not the only mama who tears up when their kids do something on their own, right?

16 Years later…

So, 16 years ago tonight Tim and I went on our very first date.  It is so weird to think that I have been with him almost half of my life!  He gets me, and I love that about him.  Plus, he’s hilarious and makes me laugh more than anyone.  And, he’s a good daddy.  And he does the laundry and cleans the house.  And, he takes my car every weekend to get washed and puts gas in it for me.  I’m pretty spoiled.

It’s finally boot weather…

I finally got to wear my boots this week!  I am the type of person that will not pull out shorts until it’s at least 80 degrees and the same goes for my tall boots.  It has to be at least 60 degrees to pull these babies out.  But, this weather has been so nice lately that it was the perfect day to start wearing them!

Kindergarten update…

It’s been 8 weeks so far and Landry still loves school!  It doesn’t surprise me though.  She’s a learner and loves to help, so I get almost daily emails from her teacher saying how good she is at helping and trying to be a leader.  I also get emails that tell me that she is a talker :)  You take the good with the bad right?  I’m so glad she loves school.  It makes taking her every day that much easier.

It’s the weekend and I plan on enjoying every bit of it!

Hayden's Hole-in-one Par-Tee

On Saturday we celebrated Hayden’s first Birthday with a golf themed party.  It was Hayden’s Hole-in-ONE Par-Tee.

When I first thought of the theme, I had no idea how much I could really do with it.  My favorite thing to do is plan theme parties and run with them.  I get all these crazy ideas, write them down and then go for it.  Tim can attest, I’ll get an idea in the middle of the night, while I’m brushing my teeth, anywhere!

I had these grand ideas of dressing Hayden up as a golfer, but then when I saw this onesie on Etsy, I couldn’t resist!  So, I did what any mom photographer does, I took him in our backyard with his toy golf club and just started snapping away.  I’m so glad I did, because I ended up with the cutest pictures of him!

As for the food, I knew I wanted to do easy finger foods and found some of the cutest ideas on Pinterest.

We had “club” sandwiches

Orange “wedges” and Fruit Par-faits

Sand trap (donut holes on brown sugar)

We played guess how many tees are in the jar

I made Hayden a picture banner of all his monthly pictures.  I love the way it turned out!

My friend that always makes our cakes outdid herself on Hayden’s smash cake.  It looked just like a golf ball!

Everyone else got a cupcake with “grass” on top!

It’s cake time!

He has never really had any kind of cake before, so I wasn’t sure how he would react.  At first, he wasn’t quite sure what to do, but once Landry and I stuck his hand in it and put the cake in his mouth, he was all over it!

That’s what we call a cake coma!

We had lots of friends come.

We had a lot of family come too.

After the party, we went back to our house and opened up Hayden’s presents.  He got so many nice things!  He got lots and lots of clothes, which is good because his closet was starting to look a little bare.  This boy has shot up in size in the last few months and most of his clothes have gotten too small for him.  So, it was really nice getting him some new clothes.

I’m so glad this little boy’s party turned out well!  He had such a good time and was loved on by people that love him so much!

We love you little man!
